TeaCal React application for tutors

Private tutors needed a tool that saves them time — instead of Excel spreadsheets and paper diaries, they wanted one application to manage schedules, student records and invoicing. I built TeaCal, a full-featured React application with real-time data that handles it all.

TeaCal React application — lesson planning, student records and invoicing.

The brief

Private language tutors and teachers of other subjects managed their admin across Google Calendar, Excel spreadsheets and notes. They wanted one tool that:

  • displays lesson schedules clearly and in real time,
  • keeps student records with lesson history,
  • generates invoices automatically from hours worked,
  • works on mobile as well as on a computer,
  • enables quick changes without data loss.

The solution

I built a full-featured web application that saves tutors hours of administration every week:

  • Schedules and planning — a clear lesson calendar that is quick to add, edit and move. Everything updates in the records immediately.
  • Student records — each student has a profile with lesson history, progress and contact details. The tutor sees everything in one place.
  • Automatic invoicing — the system generates invoices based on hours worked, so the tutor does not have to calculate anything manually.
  • Real-time data — changes are reflected instantly across all views. When a tutor adds a lesson, the student sees it straight away.
  • Responsive design — the application works just as well on a phone as on a computer, because tutors often check schedules on the go.
  • Security and backups — data is protected and regularly backed up. Tutors do not have to worry about losing information.

mobile usability

TeaCal saves tutors hours every week. Instead of administration, they can focus on what they do best — teaching. The application is fast, stable and easy to use even for less tech-savvy users.

What made the difference

The user is not a technician — it has to be intuitive. Tutors do not have time to learn complex tools. Every feature has to be understandable at a glance. When the interface is simple, people actually use it.

Real-time data changes the way you work. When a tutor adds a lesson and the student sees it immediately, unnecessary email and message communication disappears. Everything happens in the application.

Mobile usability is a necessity, not a bonus. Tutors check schedules on the go, between lessons, in the evening on the sofa. The application has to work great on a phone, otherwise they will not use it.
