Technical SEO · Website launch
Business website launch checklist
Before you launch a website, there are several things to check — from technical SEO through legal requirements to performance. Here is the practical checklist I use before every launch.
1. Technical SEO
- Every page has a unique title (max. 60 characters) and meta description (max. 160 characters).
- Headings are logically structured: one H1 per page, H2 and H3 according to hierarchy.
- URLs are clean, readable and free of unnecessary parameters.
- Images have alt text and are optimised (WebP, lazy loading).
- The website has an XML sitemap and a correctly set robots.txt.
- Canonical tags are set on every page.
2. Google and search engines
- The site is registered in Google Search Console.
- The site is registered in Bing Webmaster Tools.
- A Google Business Profile is set up (if you have a physical location or operate locally).
- Traffic measurement is active and respects GDPR (anonymous measurement, no cookies).
3. Performance and security
- The website runs on HTTPS.
- Lighthouse scores are at least 90 for performance and SEO.
- The website is responsive — it looks good on mobile, tablet and computer.
- Loading is fast — Core Web Vitals in the green zone.
- Forms and sensitive data are protected.
4. Legal essentials
- The website contains a privacy policy (GDPR).
- The website contains terms and conditions (if you sell or collect data).
- A cookie bar or notice is set up correctly.
- Company contact details (company ID, address) are visible.
5. Content and functionality
- All pages have meaningful content — no 'Lorem ipsum'.
- Links lead correctly — no 404s on important pages.
- Phone numbers and emails are clickable (tel: and mailto:).
- Forms work and messages reach the correct address.
Conclusion
This checklist covers the basics that separate a professional website from a half-finished product. Every website I build goes through these checks — because a launch is not the goal, it is the beginning.
